Using Adobe Connect: A Hands-on Exploration

Adobe Connect can be a powerful tool for meeting with students and colleagues who cannot all come to the same location.  But learning to use Connect with online resources can be disorienting!  In this hybrid session, staff from OCIO and Adobe will walk you through the basics of Connect meeting management.Participants will meet in a computer lab where Ohio State staff will make sure everyone has access to a Connect account and meeting room.  Via webinar, Tim Plumer from Adobe will demonstrate how to use various features.  Topics to be addressed include:

Usability for All: Creating PDF Forms from Word

Join Ohio State’s Web Accessibility Center staff for a hands-on workshop focusing on methods to create fillable PDF forms from Microsoft Word documents using Acrobat Pro. You will learn how to ensure that content can be saved by any user of Acrobat Reader or other free PDF viewers and that the forms are well organized and accessible to your users, including users with disabilities who may have to rely on screen readers or other assistive technologies in order to navigate and interact with PDF forms. Laptops will be provided for this session.

Game-based Learning: Reports from the First Cyberlearning Research Summit

A group of researchers and students from the Geography Department at The Ohio State University recently received an NSF Cyberlearning award to develop and evaluate the use of online map games as a learning platform. As part of that, Ola Ahlqvist recently attended the first Cyberlearning Research Summit in Washington, DC.

Web Fundamentals II (Hands-on)

This hands-on workshop is the second of three sessions in an introductory exploration of the fundamental skills and concepts needed to produce modern websites.  The focus of this session is using Adobe Dreamweaver to create and style a basic HTML/CSS layout and using that layout to create a small website.

Using Microsoft Word and Calibre to Create an ePub

Electronic publishing or ePublishing is becoming a popular way of sharing text, books, and articles on the web and mobile devices.  An eBook allows text to flow to adjust to the various sizes of electronic devices and offers some limited interactivity.  It is also compatible with many electronic devices and includes some limited interactivity. In this session, OCIO graphic designer Cindy Gray will introduce you to ePubs, guide you through a hands-on opportunity to create an ePub, and share in some conversation around ways that eBooks can be used in academics.
