The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) offers the following Windows site licensed software and public domain programs to members of The Ohio State University community. Please refer to the Software Life-cycle Management Guidelines for general policy guidelines and an explanation of certain restrictions that may apply to usage on regional campuses.

Adobe Acrobat X Pro software lets you deliver highly professional PDF communications. Create and edit PDF files with rich media included, share information more securely, and gather team feedback more efficiently.
The Office of the Chief Information Officer has reached an agreement with Adobe to provide unlimited use of the Acrobat Professional product on all OSU campuses for faculty and staff. This Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) permits a broad installation of the software, and allows us to deepen our relationship with Adobe. Available to faculty, staff, and GRA/GTA's, this software may be used on OSU-owned machines, or on home machines for University business. Available on main and regional campuses and all extension offices.

Ohio State University has entered into a Contract License Program (CLP) with Adobe. This contract provides for discounts up to 65% off of educational boxed product. An ordering procedure for departmental use is available on Software Downloads. Listed under Mac/Win as "How to Order Adobe Products". Personal use for faculty, staff, and students may be obtained at WiredOut, also at significant discount. Site License Coordinators may obtain installation codes for departmental use via the SLSC download.

Adobe Reader allows you to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files with the original graphics and layout intact. It is available to faculty, staff and students for use on campus and on home computers. This version now also includes Document Rights which provides features when you open a PDF document with additional usage rights. These features include Save Document, Advanced Form features, Comments, and Digital Signatures. This is available electronically. OSU download available via Software Downloads.

This is a geographic information system (GIS) product from Environmental Systems Research Institute. ArcGIS offers advanced modeling, mapping and analysis capabilities for the desktop. ArcGIS Desktop runs on Windows 2000/XP platforms. ArcGIS incorporates the capabilities of Arc/View and Arc/Info and replaces those products. The license is administered by the Center for Mapping. The ArcGIS Windows version is available by download and you can arrange for CD media. For more information about this package please follow the ESRI link.

ArcIMS provides the foundation for distributing high-end geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping services via the Internet. ArcIMS software enables users to integrate local data sources with Internet data sources for display, query, and analysis in an easy-to-use Web browser. ESRI's ArcPad software is mobile mapping and geographic information system (GIS) technology. ArcPad provides database access, mapping, GIS, and global positioning system (GPS) integration to users out in the field via handheld and mobile devices. Data collection with ArcPad is fast, easy, and significantly improved with immediate data validation and availability. The license is administered by the Center for Mapping. ArcSDE is a gateway that facilitates managing spatial data in database management systems. ArcSDE allows you to manage geographic information in one of the four commercial databases: IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle, as well as being able to serve ESRI's file-based data with ArcSDE for Coverages. This software is available to faculty and staff for use on main and regional campuses (including on campus labs). Home use is not allowed. It may be used solely for the purposes of educational instruction, administration, or facilities management and not for any commercial or for profit purposes at OSU. When you are no longer affiliated with OSU you must return the software to your department or OCIO. Software is purchased at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms, with an eRequest. You can purchase an annual subscription to use the AutoDesk software for $91. The subscription year expires on August 31 of each year. Please contact software@osu.edu or 614-688-HELP for payment questions. The software is available for loan out at the IT Service Desk (025 Central Classrooms). Available on mixed media, DVDROM and CDROM, only.
The AutoDesk End User License Agreement must be signed by each user obtaining a copy of AutoDesk. To facilitate this process, you can click on the link above and display the license as a .PDF file which you can print, fill out and bring to the IT Service Desk.

BadCopy Pro is a data recovery tool for floppy disk, CD-ROM, CD-R/W, digital media and other storage media, including hard drives. It can recover corrupted or lost data from damaged, unreadable or defective disks. Available to faculty and staff for on-campus machines only. No home use is allowed. This is for use for university business only. When you are no longer affiliated with OSU you must return the software to your department or OCIO. This is distributed electronically only. Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client (version 3.0) Windows:

OSUnet VPN service is designed as a solution for faculty, staff and students to be able to have remote usage to the OSUnet network that is authenticated and secure. This authentication is accomplished by a "client" VPN program which communicates with a server located at OSU. Available to faculty, staff and students at main and regional campuses and on your home computer. It is for university-related business only and must be left with your department and removed from your home computer when you leave OSU. This is distributed electronically only. is a free, open source FTP client. It provides a reliable way to maintain web pages and perform file transfers on the Internet. It supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS). Available to faculty, staff and students for main and regional campus use and home use. This is distributed electronically only. OSU download available via Software Downloads.
Gaussian (2003, Rev. E.01) Win 2000/XP/Vista:

Gaussian is a program for computational chemistry. It uses electronic structure modeling to investigate chemical phenomena. It is available to faculty, staff and for classroom use. Home use is not allowed. It is available only for main campus. The right-to-use license is no charge. Faculty and staff will sign an End User Agreement which also contains a Confidentiality Agreement, which OCIO will forward to Gaussian, Inc. IT support staff are able to deploy copies to student labs but are not authorized to make distribution to any other faculty/staff. Each faculty/staff user must obtain their own copy from OCIO after signing their own agreement. Students in labs are authorized to use the software only for projects and assignments for courses in which they are currently enrolled. Each student must sign a departmental computing policies form to use the software. The media may be obtained at the IT Service Desk (025 Central Classrooms). Software is distributed at the IT Service Desk. CDROM only.

JMP is an interactive software tool designed for statistical visualization and exploratory data analysis. This is available to faculty, staff and students located on main campus only. It can be used for classroom instruction, academic research and course work only. Home use is allowed for a holder of the license on campus. The right-to-use license is no charge. LANDesk (current version)
Supported Versions: Current release supported; "Mid-year Upgrade Protection" ensures releases stay current.
Eligibility: Faculty/Staff; Main and branch campus usey permitted; OSU-managed machines only (including contractors).
Cost: Based on an FTE model. Obtain quote per below description.
LANDesk Software provides systems management, security management, service management, asset management, and process management solutions to organizations. Available to OSU faculty and staff for use on all OSU-owned machines and any machines that require management by OSU staff. OCIO Site Licensing and OCIO Security, with help from CFAES and other offices at OSU, have partnered to negotiate a three-year contract with LANDesk for departments to purchase a variety of their software from GovConnection. Pricing is based on a per-FTE basis, as calculated by Site Licensing based on departmental Microsoft FTE counts, and all departments receive the same price, regardless of size. Site Licensing recommends the Management Suite and Mid-year Upgrade Protection. A powerful and comprehensive interactive symbolic algebra system used for engineering and mathematical instruction and research. Available to faculty and staff for use on campus or in their homes for university-related business. Available to students who are employed as a teaching or research assistant/associate for use on computers on campus only for university-related business. Software must be returned when leaving OSU. This program comes in a desktop version and a server version. The server version may be used to run Maple in a LAN environment. Maple contains extensive Help documentation after installation. Additionally, you can access the Maple Application Center. This site offers a free online resource of technical solutions submitted by Maple users from around the world. MATLAB is a part of a product offering by The MathWorks and is an interactive environment for numeric computation that specializes in working with matrices. It combines a powerful user interface with 2-D and 3-D graphics and a comprehensive library of mathematical analysis techniques. This product comes in two versions:

This is a technical computing system used by science, industry and academia. It combines high-precision numeric and symbolic computation with data visualization and programming capabilities. This license was obtained by the College of Math and Physical Sciences. This version is licensed to currently employed faculty and staff. This software may be used on OSU-owned machines or personal machines in support of instruction of academic research. Research laboratories are not eligible unless their primary mission is the direct teaching of students. The software is licensed annually at no charge, currently. The ePolicy Orchestrator product provides centralized anti-virus policy management and enforcement, software deployment, and reporting capabilities to ensure virus protection. This is primarily intended for use by computer support staff managing antivirus support in their college/dept. It is distributed electronically from McAfee download pages. McAfee Active Virus Defense:
McAfee Active Virus Defense is a collection of antivirus tools licensed by OCIO. It includes the following components: VirusScan, Mac VirusScan, GroupShield and WebShield, among others. VirusScan and Mac VirusScan are discussed in other entries on these web pages. GroupShield and WebShield are more specialized tools that are likely to be used by LAN administrators and are discussed collectively here.
GroupShield version 7.0.2 for Exchange Server 2010:
GroupShield is an anti-virus tool for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. GroupShield Exchange installs into your existing Microsoft Exchange software. Once installed, GroupShield protects your Exchange network by:
- Continuously monitoring your Exchange server and protecting it from viruses and software threats that may be introduced via e-mail. GroupShield works in real time to detect and disable viruses as they attempt to enter or move through the system.
- Helping you maintain a virus-free environment by scanning mailboxes on your Exchange server. GroupShield can intercept, clean, and log an infected file attachment before it spreads.

GroupShield 7.0 is an anti-virus tool for Lotus Domino servers. GroupShield continuously monitors your Lotus Domino network and protects it from potential viruses and software threats that may be introduced via email messages or Lotus Notes documents. GroupShield works in real time to detect and disable viruses as they attempt to enter or move through the system. Further features include:
- GroupShield helps you maintain a virus-free environment by letting you perform active scans of your Lotus Domino network.
- The GroupShield Quarantine Area is a Lotus Notes database that acts as a repository for all detected viruses.
Microsoft Forefront for Endpoint:

NVivo is a package used in Qualitative Data Analysis. This tool allows fine-detail analysis, fluid exploration and interpretation, integrating the processes of interpretation and questioning. NVivio has many ways of recording the links between data and ideas that go beyond coding. This is available to faculty and staff on the main and regional campuses and in student labs. Home use is allowed for OSU business purposes only. It is available to you while you are affiliated with OSU and must be left with your department and deleted from your home computer when you leave OSU. Software is purchased at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms, with an eRequest only. The cost is $42 for the license. The purchase year runs from July 1 - July 1 of each year, and each copy installed requires the fee. Existing users may upgrade to this version at no charge. Read and Write is a support program to help people with reading and writing difficulties when using their computer. It can use a sound card to read aloud and help you construct words using word prediction. This software was obtained by the Office for Disability Services and is distributed by OCIO at their request. Available to faculty and staff and for computer labs for student use. It may be used on main campus only or on a OSU-owned laptop for OSU travel. No home use is allowed. This software is available via CDROM only.

ReadSpeaker Enterprise:

Provides end users a link on a web page that when clicked reads the contents of the page, with optional highlighting of text during reading. Users can also download an MP3 of the page. The web developer chooses the region of the page to be read and implements by including a "Listen" link and some JavaScript. Available for use on osu.edu and ohio-state.edu domains and sub-domains only, and only on HTTP pages (not HTTPS). "Listen" links will work in all modern browsers that support Flash and JavaScript. Browsers that do not support Flash will not be able to play back pages with the highlighting effect; however, clicking the "Listen" link in these browsers will display a link to download an MP3 of the page. RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to create their own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. They can use these references in writing their papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography. RefWorks is a web-based application and hence is available to users on Windows, Macintosh and Unix, etc. No downloading or installation is needed since you use your web browser to access this application from a server. Write-n-Cite is a feature which allows you to access your references in RefWorks while working within Microsoft Word. RefWorks has been acquired through the efforts of The Ohio State University Libraries in conjunction with other OhioLink member schools. OCIO site licensing provides some cost sharing in support of this campuswide license. This application is available to faculty, staff and students on the main and regional campuses. The application provides easy, natural language searching of the "Chemical Abstracts" database by subject, author and chemical substance. Secunia Corporate Software Inspector (CSI) 5.0

The Secunia CSI is an authenticated patch scanner, designed to be non-intrusive and easy on the hosts and network being scanned, thus causing a minimal impact while pinpointing vulnerable programs across your network. The product is in two parts: a central management dashboard that is an automated patch manager and security scanner that integrates with Microsoft WSUS & SCCM for easy deployment of security updates and adheres to Patch Management best practices; and an agent that runs on client machines for deeper information about those machines. Agentless scanning is also possible. Secunia agents are small and have little (if any) impact on performance, and they report software inventories as well as security vulnerabilities and allowing patching. Secunia CSI agents may be installed on any machine managed by the University, including personally-owned machines; the PSI (see below) should be installed on unmanaged machines not owned by the University, however. Thanks to OCIO Security and the OSU Medical Center, there is no cost for the use of this softare through November 2015. New users must purchase an annual subscription for use at the IT Service Desk (025 Central Classrooms) for $16 (includes license) with an eRequest. The annual subscription runs from November 1 to November 1. If you have purchased SigmaPlot since September 1 of the year you will be covered for the year. Each copy for new users requires the fee. STATA is an environment for manipulating and analyzing data using statistical and graphical methods. It is an integrated package, not a collection of separate modules. This is available as part of the StataCorp Grad Plan. Available to faculty, staff, and students on main and regional campuses and on home computers. If you purchase with your own funds you own the software license. Licenses purchased with OSU funds remain with OSU. To purchase, call 800-782-8272 or go to the StataCorp site.
Once you have ordered the software, your order should normally be available for pickup at the IT Service Desk in 025 Central Classrooms the next business day (notification is sent via e-mail when the software is available for pickup). The software comes boxed from StataCorp. All materials you have ordered are in the distribution.

A comprehensive statistical analysis package that includes graphics and data management. Provides a point-and-click statistical analysis through a series of icons and pull-down menus; the ability to open multiple windows on the desktop to be able to view data, results, and graphics at the same time; and a large array of scientific and technical graphs. Available to faculty, staff and students for use on computers on campus or at home for university-related business. Software must be returned and deleted from your home PC when you leave OSU.
The software is available only via electronic download. New users will need to fill out an end user agreement and obtain a license file to enable the software to run, and upgrading users will need to verify their current agreements. You can do this in a couple of ways:
- Come to the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms, and fill out the end user agreement and the license file will be sent via email. Please bring a valid university ID.
- Go to the Software Downloads web site and to the Windows/SYSTAT entry and download the end user agreement. Fill it out and bring it to the IT Service Desk to obtain the license file. Please bring a valid university ID.

TextPad is a powerful, general purpose editor for plain text files. It has many features for the power user. It includes these features: edit very large files (up to the limits of virtual memory), a spelling checker, unlimited undo/redo capability, block mode, sorting using up to 3 keys and a power search/replace engine using Unix-style regular expressions. Available to faculty and staff for main and regional campuses and home computers. It can be used only for OSU business purposes. Mozilla Thunderbird is an Exchange-compliant e-mail alternative to Microsoft Outlook. It is open source and updated regularly by the Mozilla Project. By combining an open architecture, a powerful extensibility and customization framework, and a person-centric perspective on communications, Thunderbird is a powerful yet enjoyable tool to help individuals manage their online interactions. Available to faculty, staff, and students for personal and institutional use. This product replaces Eudora, removed from distribution in 2010. Available via Software Downloads.

TurningPoint 2008 is software that OSU instructors and staff can use to add interactive polling/quizzing slides to a PowerPoint presentation. They can make a request to have OCIO Classroom Services install the software in a Classroom Pool room's lectern computer (and the required USB antenna) by sending an e-mail to clickers@osu.edu. The download comes with a limited license code that allows these copies to work with up to 5 clickers for testing. Also, bundled with the Windows version is TurningPoint AnyWhere. TurningPoint AnyWhere is an audience response system that allows presenters to poll an audience from any PC application and immediately display the results. This allows for instantaneous feedback for the presenter and helps keep the audience engaged by displaying their input. Available to faculty, staff and students for use on main and regional campuses and home computers. This software is for use for university-related business. A Digital Music Repository software package offered by the Ohio State University Music and Dance Library. It is a tool to assist instructors in demonstrating musical concepts by annotating musical scores and audio files and sharing them with students. It allows students to study these compositions outside of the classroom at most web-enabled personal computers. This is all done while unobtrusively enforcing the rights of the works' copyright holders based on the students' course enrollment. Available to faculty, staff, and students. This is a workstation and server program for detecting and removing computer viruses. It allows you to scan your hard drives, memory and diskettes to find viruses and repair infected files. This license was obtained by OCIO. Available to faculty and staff for main and regional campus use. This is a right-to-use license and software must be returned to your department or OCIO and deleted from your computer when you leave OSU. This version provides for AutoUpdate of DAT files and is packaged with an AutoUpdate schedule preconfigured into it so you do not have to perform this configuration. This is an archive utility. It allows an intuitive point-and-click, drag-and-drop interface for viewing, running, extracting, adding, deleting and testing files in archives with a standard Windows interface. It has support for TAR, gzip, Unix compress, UUencode, BinHex and MIME formats as well as zip format. Available to faculty and staff for main and regional campus use and home computer use. This is a right-to-use license for use while you are affiliated with OSU. Should you leave OSU you must return the software to your department or OCIO and delete it from your computer. You may purchase the license at the IT Service Desk (025 Central Classrooms) for $7 only with an eRequest. Software is distributed at the IT Service Desk. Existing users: Upon verification of your status as a OCIO license holder for WinZip, you may obtain the download link from the IT Service Desk. All users: A download link will be distributed via e-mail at time of purchase. Download only.
OCIO is no longer on maintenance with this program, and updates to future versions are not expected.

X-Win32 is a X Windows server which runs on the PC platform. X Windows provides for a Graphical User Interface for Unix systems. X-Win32 also integrates support for OpenGL-based X Windows applications.
